Ba Na
Bana has lived the Central Highland of Vietnam for long time ago. They include Ro Ngao, Ro Long (Y Lang), To Lo, Go Lar Krem. There are 227,716 Bana people (2009) in Vietnam and living mainly in Gia Lai, Kon Tum and the west of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa. Their language is categorized under Mon-Khmer language group.
The Bana cultivate both upland and dry paddy rice. Bana people like to eat areca, smoke tobacco and drink “can wine”.
The Bana worship many gods. They celebrate many agricultural ceremonies. Soul of rice is respected.
Folk song of Bana people is very rich. Popularly is “hmon” and “roi” harmonies. Music instruments is also diversified and unique.
Epics and folk stories of Bana people are unique folk work in Vietnam folk literature.
