Value of characteristic

Viet Nam has 54 ethnics. Each ethnic has their own weaving characteristic and contribute to create a colorful picture of
Vietnam handicraft. The value of each ethnic weaving is motif. Motif is the very different dot of each ethnic. It symbolizes for their ethnic humanity perception, religion and their own belief. The weaving in the North, the South and the Central of Vietnam is also very different.

While tribes in the North and South of Vietnam use fixed weaving loom popularly, the tribes in Central Highland of Viet Nam mostly use backstrap loom, therefore, the longest length for one product is 6m. With that limitation, weaving cloth of tribes in Central Highland is different one by one that you could not see the second same products. Another difference is decoration on the cloths. Most of tribes in the North weaving first and then embroider motifs on it later. While the tribes in Central Highland hang-up colorful vertical thread in proper order so that geometrical motifs will be created when they
weave. This method makes a range of motifs stand out from the dark background of the cloths. In addition, Cotu and Ta Oi tribes, who live in Central Highland, could be weave beads into the cloths in order to create uniqueness motifs. This special technique is only possessed by these two tribes in Vietnam. At the end of the cloths, weavers tie the threads to make a knot as well as to decorate the cloths.
